MASTER OF COMMERCE (M.Com.) (AUTONOMOUS)

OBJECTIVE: With the increasing complexities, in the world of trade, industry and business, the scope of Commerce is increasing day by day. Due to globalization of almost all the restricted, small national markets, the business activities all over the world have been gaining rapid momentum. Commerce, as a result, has opened up new vistas of oppurtunities both in the industry and in the Research and Academic field. In the world of Commerce, two important areas of interest - Accounting & Finance and Marketing, both of which are equally important from their context. Finance is creating immense scope in job and research works due to the development of share markets, international trade, globalization of business etc. and on the other hand, with the growth of cut-throat competition in almost all spheres of life, proper marketing is perhaps one of the major keys to success. This growing importance of Marketing and Finance certainly requires considerable volume of manpower having specialised knowledge of these subjects. Keeping this in mind, our college is offereing Post-Graduate courses in Commerce (M.Com.) with specialization in 'Accounts, Finance & Control' & 'Marketing Management'. Under the aegis of West Bengal State University with a greater degree of autonomy in structuring syllabi, conducting examinations and evaluations. Curriculum of all PG courses run in Semesterwise (Four) Examination System with 100 Credit Points. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) has been introduced in all Post Graduate curriculum.

*Reserved category: As per Govt. rule. In case the reserved seats are not fulfilled, general category candidates will be considered for those seats.

ATTENDANCE AND CONDUCT

Now the curriculum runs in Semesterwise (Four) Examination System with 100 Credit Points. To appear at each semester examination one has to secure 75% of the credit per semester (contact teaching) both in theory and practical classes separately.

FEES STRUCTURE

Course Fee :      Tuition Fees Rs. 6,000/- per annum. (Payable at a time)
Laboratory Fees Rs. 1,800/- per annum. (Payable at a time)
[On the basis of Tuition fee is Rs. 500/- and laboratory fee Rs. 150/- per month]
There is a provision of financial assistance to financially weak students.

LIBRARY: Students are entitled to have the library facilities as per rules prevailing in the college.

BROADER LEARNING OUTCOMES OF M.COM IN ACCOUNTING, FINANCE & CONTROL (AFCM) AND MARKETING MANAGEMENT (MRMM):

After completing the Master of Commerce in ‘Accounting, Finance & Control’ (AFCM) or in ‘Marketing Management’ (MRMM) a student is expected:

  • To be able to identify, analyze and solve business problems
  • To be able to use critical reasoning to evaluate information
  • To be able to make use of quantitative skills necessary for analysis and critical reasoning
  • To be able to understand and use information technology tools, techniques and resources
  • To have mastered a body of knowledge in one area of specialization within the discipline of Commerce
  • To be able to communicate effectively and to understand inter-disciplinary expressions
  • To have acquired skills for life-long learning

3A.  EMPLOYMENT SCOPES: 'ACCOUNTS, FINANCE & CONTROL'

This course has been designed in a way to provide assistance to the students in getting employment opportunities in finance, accounting and taxation oriented jobs in the industrial, financial and other service sectors, including international business. Further, this course also provides a basis for employment in capital markets, taxation authorities, banks, insurance companies, audit institutions, etc. It also helps students to appear and successfully perform in competitive exams, including that related to the teaching profession (NET, SET, SSC etc.).

3B.  EMPLOYMENT SCOPES: 'MARKETING MANAGEMENT'

This course has been designed in a way to provide assistance to the students in getting employment opportunities in marketing and sales oriented jobs in the retail, industrial, banking, insurance and international business sectors. Further, this course also provides a basis for employment in advertising agencies, logistics companies, marketing research organizations etc. It also helps students to appear and successfully perform in competitive exams, including that related to the teaching profession (NET, SET, SSC etc.).
