The Department was established in 1970 with General course. Honours course was introduced in 1973. The Department's goal is to lay a strong basis for the understanding of mathematical concepts and structures, as well as to develop mathematical talents such as creative, logical, and analytical thinking. The faculty is dedicated to research and has published publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals. Members of the faculty have also presented their work on an international stage.
