About Library


The Central Library is automated with open source Library Management Software Koha with RFID technologies. There are 61000+ printed books & 46 journals in the library on array of subjects and discipline. There are good collection of encyclopaedias and other references books for the benefit of the stake holders. The bibliographic information is accessible through WebOPAC of the library.

The Library is member of N - LIST (National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the library can access 6300+ ejournals and 1,00,000 ebooks. More over the Library is subscribing IEEE Journals in electronic forms. The Library is a part of  NPTel (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), an initiative of IITs & IISc to enhance the quality of education in the country by developing curriculum based video and web courses. The Library is Institutional Member of BCL, Kolkata

There are Departmental Libraries in each department for the students of concerned departments.

Layout

The College Library is spread in two campuses as well as the hostel. The Central Library is located in the Science Campus and catering to the students of Science Faculty, both UG & PG. The Arts & Commerce students are mostly catered from the Arts & Commerce Campus. Each Department has departmental library to support its students.

 

Regulations

  • Each student have to be the member for using the Library.

  • The college library remains open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday; 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturday. But circulation suspended one hour before of the closing.

  • The Students may borrow 5 books for 15 days and may renew the same for additional 15 days. The Full time teachers may borrow 10 books for 30 days where as part time / guest teachers may borrow 3 books for 30 days.

  • Marginal Students (having family income less than 10,000 per month) are allowed to borrow 10 books for 15 days.

  • The Library is under CCTV Surveillance

  • Retaining books for more than the stipulated period is liable for a fine of Re. 0.5 /day/book.

  • The members have open access to the library. So members have to keep their bags (excluding purse & mobile) in the baggage counter.

  • No student is allowed to take additional copy of same title at a time.

  • Members are allowed to use reading room for reading purposes on submission of their reading cards.

  • Disregard of library rules, indiscipline and misbehavior will render students liable to be denied access to the library.

Circulations

The front desk service of the library begins from the Circulation Desk. The new admitted students are required to be registered themselves to be the library members. The library cards are issued from the library. In the circulation section, members can get following resources:

The issue, return, fine for overdue, reissue are served from this section. The entire process is computerized and powered by open source software Koha.

WebOPAC (Online Catalogue)

WebOPAC is web accessible Online Public Access Catalogue of the library resources. It can be accessible 24X7 remotely from the OPAC link in Library tab of the College website.

From WebOPAC, one can access his/her library account after logging in. Default LogIn ID is 11 digits roll number and password is 12345.

Repository

The college repository is a large collection of syllabus, teaching plans, academic calendars, previous year question papers, college publication and many more. The entire repository is remotely accessible for 24X7 from the Repository link of Library Tab of the college website.

E Resources

The Library is member of N - LIST (National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the library can access 6500+ ejournals and 1,00,000+ ebooks. Besides it subscribes to Sage ejournals and Oxford University Press ebooks. To have access to these resources, user can mail their interest to library.brsnc@gmail.com mentioning name, department and phone number. After registration, the respective member will get an activation link. After activating the account will be activated.

E Access Point

In the both campuses, there is an internet access facility in the library. In Science campus there are ten dedicated PCs for the users , where as in Arts & Commerce campus there are  six dedicated PCs. Besides, the entire library is covered with Wi-Fi facility, users can access e-resources from their mobiles/tabs also.

Newspaper Desk

Library subscribes to 15 leading newspapers in Bengali, English and Hindi languages. Besides the electronic version is indexed in the library webpage.

Journals & Magazines

Library subscribes 45 academic journals and magazines for its academic fraternity. Back volumes of these journals are also available in the bound volume section.

Career Corner

In the career Corner, library provides relevant books and magazines for the competitive examination for government and non-government positions. The corner is a support service to the students of Career & Placement Cell of the College.

Rare Books

The library possesses some rare, antique and valuable books. Some of which are digitized and uploaded in the Rare Book link of Library tab of the College website brsnc.in.

Orientation, Reference & Bibliographic Services

Library organizes regular orientation programme at the beginning of the new session for the new students of the College. It also provides need based reference and bibliographic services to the students and teachers.

 

 

Collaboration

The Library is connected with The British Council Library, Kolkata. The Library is centrally located at 16 Camac Street and is well connected to all parts of the city and its outskirts via public transport. In a city known for its reading culture the library remains a major draw for the people of Kolkata. In addition to books, physical and online, it also offers a wide collection of CDs and DVDs and provides opportunities for development through workshops for members of all age.

Sage Journals

Sage Publications is an independent publishing company founded in 1965 in New York. Sage has more than 1, 500 employees globally from principal offices in Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, and Washington DC. Sage’s publishing program includes more than 700 journals and over 800 books, reference works and electronic products a year in business, humanities, social sciences, science, technology and medicine.Few selective journals have online access from the Library.

Indian National Science Academy

The Indian National Academy is the apex body of the Indian scientists representing all branches of science & technology. Its objectives encompass promotion of science in India including its application to national welfare, afeguarding the interests of the scientists, establishing linkages with international bodies to foster collaboration and expressing considered opinion on national issues. The Academy was established on 7th January 1935, as the National Institute Of Sciences Of India, in Calcutta, in the premises of the Asiatic Society with Sir Lewis Fermor as the founder President (1935-36).Prof. Meghnad Saha was elected as the first Indian President (1937-38). To promote the intellectual scientific output of the country is dessimianted through its publications.

E-Resource


NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams. The mission of NPTEL is to enhance the quality of Engineering education in the country by providing free online courseware. The standalone version of these lectures are available with respective departments.

BBC Learning English: This website from the BBC aids people learning English, by offering help in the form of 'Words in the News', 'Quizzes', videos via YouTube etc. The teachers section loaded with activities that accompany the many different features on Learning English. In the “Downloads” section on the far right hand side of the page, learners can get the past seven days of audio, video, and text to take away. Explore the site for many more features.


Carnegie Mellon Open Learning Initiative: Carnegie Mellon University offers this site full of course tutoring systems, virtual laboratories, simulations, and frequent opportunities for assessment and feedback to help you learn.


Engineering Pathway: Here you can Learn, Connect, and Create high-quality teaching and learning resources in applied science and math, engineering, computer science/information technology, and engineering technology for use by K-12 and university educators and students.

 


The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Open Courseware: OCW project provides access to content of the School's most popular courses in the field of health sciences.


MIT Open Courseware: MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.


OEDB Free Online Open Courses: It is an index to free online open courses offered by different universities.


OpenLearn: The OpenLearn website gives free access to Open University course materials. This is the LearningSpace, where you'll find hundreds of free study units, each with a discussion forum.


Tufts OpenCourseware: Tufts University has joined MIT in offering the world free access to certain course content online in the field of life sciences. Tufts OpenCourseWare (OCW) seeks to capitalize on the potential of the internet to eliminate borders and geographic distance as obstacles to the instantaneous exchange of knowledge and new ideas.


University of California Irvine: It is a free and open digital publication of high quality university-level educational materials, often including syllabi, lecture notes, assignments and exams.


Current Science provides online access to full text of articles in .pdf format from 1998.


Data Quest online access to full text of articles is available from 1998.


Indian Academy of Sciences Journals provides free online full text access to its journals. Back issues are available from 1999 onwards. /


PC-Quest online access to full text of articles is available from 1999.


Sankhya: Series A and B online access to full text of papers is available from 2000 for both the series. The articles are available in .pdf format.


Economic and Political Weekly provides free online access to full text of articles published in current and few preceding years volumes.


Labour File gives online access to full text of articles of few issues.


Little Magazine provides online access to full text of articles from May 2000. Even though articles covered on internet edition are less compared to print edition, but it is worth.


Reserve Bank of India Bulletin provides online access to full text of articles and statistics published in its bulletin from 1997. 


Reserve Bank of India Occasional Papers provides online access full text of articles in both .pdf and MS-Word .doc format from 1998.


Seminar provides online acces to full text of articles with effect from 2000.


Social Scientist provides online access to full text of articles with effect from 1972. Articles are in the form of images.
